This article is about a person who is alive
This person is currently working at: California Institute of Technology
Michael Aschbacher (April 8, 1944 - ) is an American mathematician.
- 1966: Aschbacher completed his B.S. at California Institute of Technology
- 1969: Received Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison
Aschbacher was among the mathematicians who worked in the Classification of finite simple groups, his contributions being over the period 1970-80. Later, along with Smith, Aschbacher fixed a gap in the proof of the classification for the case of quasithin groups. He is also among the mathematicians who has worked on a second-generation classification proof.
Aschbacher worked under Richard Bruck.
