This article is about a Austrian-Armenian group theorist (a Austrian-Armenian person working in group theory)

Emil Artin was an Austrian-Armenian mathematician.

His son is Michael Artin.

Life

Note: Have currently only added personal details. I am planning to go through things like notable papers and results onto the timeline.

  • 1898: Born on March 3 in Vienna.
  • 1925: Became associate professor at Hamburg, Germany
  • 1926: Became professor at Hamburg, Germany
  • 1929: Married his wife Natascha
  • 1933: Hitler takes power in Germany. Due to his wife Natascha's Jewish descent, they face increased persecution from 1933-1937 when they leave for the United States.
  • 1934: Son, Michael Artin is born.
  • 1937: Loses university professorship due to his wife having Jewish descent, and Germany being ruled by the Nazi regieme. Leaves Germany for the United States.
  • 1946: Became professor at Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.A.
  • 1958: Moves back to Germany.
  • 1962: Died on December 20.
